Having had such success with my £50 Beauty Challenge, and seeing as it’s New Year’s, I thought I’d better find a new challenge for 2015…..
As you can probably imagine – I’m a bit of a hoarder due to my slight shopping addiction. In my head I’m super pintrest-y and minimalist, but in reality I love to stash things for a rainy day. So I think this challenge from Next Avenue is going to be perfect for 2015.
The idea is that you get rid of (to the bin or a charity shop depending) one thing on Jan 1st, then two things on Jan 2nd, until Jan 30th where you do thirty things! Apparently it adds up to 465 things altogether (and most people go over the amount once they’re on a roll) which is a major commitment!
However, as we know from any kind of exercise ever, these things are best done in pairs, and although I have a lot of stuff, it’s still only one room in total. So….. I’m combining with my Mum, and for every thing she gets rid of from the house, I’ll get rid of one from my room. So we’re going to share the 465 between us, and help each other be extra extra ruthless!
I’m so excited about having a big declutter, and also giving some great things to charity. I always have a charity shop donations bag hanging on the back of my door, to throw things into when I’m feeling brave, but this is a whole new level for sure. However, I think it’ll push me to really look at how often I use things, and therefore give some really nice things to charity that I would normally keep hold of unreasonably.
The challenge recommends doing a different area of the house each day (e.g. under the bed, bathroom cupboard, desk, etc) but we are going to be a bit more random (natch). Think it’ll be handy for when we get a bit stuck near the end though…..
I’ll be sharing updates with you on how we’re doing, and would love you to join us! If not for January, maybe February (a nice short month)?
