Can you wear black in summer? OOTD

Hey guys!

Have got a little outfit post for you today….

I wanted to bust the myth that you can’t wear black if it’s

a) a boiling hot summer day, and

b) if you’ve got pale skin.

So here goes!

I went for an all black outfit today and felt great in it! Think the black made me look really tanned, and added some extra bronzer to my makeup for a summer glow. I’m increasingly finding myself more and more drawn to black when I’m shopping, so my wardrobe is creeping into a hoard of monochrome! It’s such a slimming and easy to wear colour, that I think it’s great for all four season…. just make sure you add something fun too and don’t become too plain – let’s have fun with fashion!

My top is a knitted 90s Kookai handed down from my Mum – how things have come back in a circle eh!?

Then the shorts are a lazer cut silky feel from Waggy Tails charity shop (on the sale rack!).

These boots were reduced in Primark to just £2 – what a find! My bag is fake Givenchy from Thailand, and the giant hollow bangles are from the Miss Selfridge sale.

Outfit breakdown:

Knitted Kookai top – Free (hand-me-down)

Laser-cut shorts – £1.75 – Waggy Tails charity shop, Ashley Road, Poole

Metal bangles – £2 – Miss Selfridge sale

Silver ankle boots – £2 – Primark sale

Givenchy handbag – £11 – Thailand market

I opted for a fresh faced, glowy summer makeup, using a Bobbi Brown cream blush to avoid looking too powdered, a dash of highlighting Benefit Sun Beam, and a Clinique subtle lipstick. Hope you like it!

Very snazzy, Louise! Must be something in the air–I’ve also drifted back towards black (with white & red & other strong accent colors). Always classy, and with lightweight, breathable fabrics (rayon, linen, cotton), you can wear it even on steamy days without boiling. Certainly stands out in the sea of typical pale summer colors! (BTW, love your new site design–clean and elegant.)

Thanks! Spent a lot of time (and tears) on the new design so glad to have it appreciated 🙂
I agree – don’t know why black is drawing me this year… guess we just like to be different 😉

I absolutely love those shorts!! What a bargain you got yourself there!! I have never thought about black in summer actually, as I see it more as a dressy thing but I will definately be keeping my eye out now for some!!

Yay – so glad I’ve opened up new ideas for you Charlotte! Always seems such a shame to relegate such a bit chunk of wardrobe to winter only. Enjoy! And thanks for stopping by <3
