I recently read this really interesting blog post about what idols to give your daughter. The author is a photographer and wanted to photograph her daughter in some creative unusual images. But all the tutorials she found online were for Disney Princess looks and she wanted something more attainable and motivational. Of course, we all know I love a good Disney Princess as much as the next girl but in this blog she dresses up her daughter as inspirational women such as Coco Chanel, Amelia Earhart (first female to fly solo across the atlantic), Jane Goodall (anthropologist) and others. I really really loved this idea, and although it’s fun to have some glamour and fairy tales, I also think young girls would look up to these people if they ever even just heard who they were! I (shamefully) haven’t heard of some of the women in her photography, or thought “I recognise that name, what did they do again?”. I’m sure if you showed your daughters/sisters some of these images and explained with enthusiasm how amazing they were, then they would find themselves new idols in these women.
