Yipee, I’m starting a new series this month – it’s called ‘Wear or Donate’……
For those of you based in the UK you may well know the Radio 1 feature where they get celebrities to randomly scroll their phone address book and whoever it lands on they must either prank call or delete. It’s a hilarious feature that always cracks me up. But, it got me thinking about a new series for my blog. I have heaps of clothes and I can’t possibly wear them all, but when I try to have a clear out I end up thinking ‘oh but I REALLY like this, I just don’t fancy wearing it today and I haven’t worn it for a year’. Hence, the new challenge….. in the morning I pick something at random from my wardrobe that I haven’t worn for a while and force myself to wear it that day. If I can’t find an outfit that works or don’t fancy wearing it then I MUST donate it to my new charity shop Find Me Charity instead. Now, you’re probably thinking “what if it’s a summer/going out dress” – the rules still apply! I figure add tights or jeans or a blazer or don’t leave the house – whatever it takes to keep that item in your possession if you love it so much.
So, every day this month I’ll be posting an outfit from old items that I’ve managed to save, and of course some that’ve had to be let go. It’s harsh but fair I think, as things really have got out of control.
In theory, by coupling this with my £50 beauty Challenge I should be in a lovely empty zen room in no time!
70s Pleated Flares and a Polka Dot dress
These trousers are amazing but so so long. I’ve hardly worn them because of the length, but thankfully today I was just going to my Mum’s birthday lunch so put on my biggest heels and wobbled between the car and restaurant fairly successfully! This top was also on the chopping block as it’s dress length but is really thin and clingy so I’ve never got round to wearing it. Since seeing Blake Lively in a similar one I couldn’t bring myself to ditch it, but also didn’t get round to wearing it…… But as a pair I thought these two colours complimented each other so they live to see another day in my wardrobe! The purse is new and I just couldn’t resist the adorable citrus print. It really reminded of the Kate Spade NYFW s/s14 collection – and at a snip of the price!
Pale pink sheer polka dot top – £4 – Urban Outfitters sale
Terracotta pleated trousers – £2 – Primark sale
Mink and lime platform heels – not bloggable – New Look sale
Citrus mini purse – 50p – Cheshire Box charity shop, Ashley Road
Red nail polish – £1.99 – Barry M
I love this idea! I have to say, I’m guilty of the same thing. It’s so easy to accumulate tons of piece that, at the time you think are so cool and different, but then you don’t end up wearing them because they don’t quite fit with your wardrobe. I love that you’re giving those pieces a second chance! Very inspirational for my own wardrobe 🙂
I have a whole bunch of stuff in the garage, I mean I got it out of my closet, right? There is a new app called 99 dresses that you should try out (US only unfortunately), it’s like a swap, all you do is pay for shipping! But there is a lot of stuff I need to definitely donate!
Xx,
Zhenya

What a great idea! I love forward to seeing your future outfit posts 🙂 You’re a girl after my own heart, all those sale items 😉
This is a good idea. I need to declutter urgently and I’m going to start doing this!
Yeah should totally try it! I was amazed how much I managed to get rid of when before I thought I’d already had a ‘thorough’ clear out. Look forward to seeing the results!
